Simple Onion Poha Recipe For Breakfast

Onion Poha is a popular Maharashtrian breakfast or snack recipe that is made with beaten rice and onions.



How to make Onion Poha:
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 10 mins
Ready In: 20 mins
Serves: 2

Ingredients needed for Onion Poha:
Poha (thick to medium kind) - 1 1/2 cups
Large Onion - 1 (Finely Chopped)
Green Chilies – 2
Spring Curry Leaves – 1
Few corianders leave chopped
Handful of peanuts
Oil – As much required
Mustard - 3/4 tbsp
Jeera/ Cumin - 3/4 tbsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tbsp
Salt - As per the taste
Sugar - 1/2 to 1 tbsp (Optional)
Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp (Optional)

Preparation Method:
Wash poha few times and drain the water completely. Set aside to soften.
Heat up a pan and add peanuts. Roast the peanuts until nice aroma begins to come. Set this aside.
Heat up 2 tbsp oil in a pan or kadai and add cumin.
When cumin begin to splutter, add onions, green chilies and curry leaves. Soute until the onions turn lightly pink.
Add Poha, turmeric and sugar into the pan. Mix well and cover the pan.
Cook on a low heat until the poha turns hot.
Sprinkle lemon juice. Mix well. Add coriander leaves and switch off the gas.
Garnish with roasted peanuts and coriander leaves.
