Palak paneer is one of the most popular north Indian dishes. It is very easy to prepare and tastes delicious. Palak paneer goes well with naan, parathas, roti and even jeera rice or biryani rice.

Ingredients needed for Palak Paneer
- Spinach – 2 large bunch (washed and clean, about 6 cups packed spinach)
- Paneer - 1-1/2 cups (cubed into ½ inch pieces)
- Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
- Green chili - 2 (finely chopped)
- Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Butter – 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds (jeera) – ½ tbsp
- Asafetida – 1/8 tbsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric – ¼ tbsp
- Red chili powder – ½ tbsp
- Salt – ½ tbsp (or as per your taste)
- Sugar – ½ tbsp
- Whole wheat flour – 1 tbsp
- Heavy cream – 1/3 cup
Preparation Method:
- First, blanch the spinach. To blanch the spinach, boil it in salted water for 2 minutes.
- Drain all water and put the spinach in ice cold water for about 2 minutes. Drain the cold water.
- Blend the blanched spinach and green chili. Spinach should be creamy but not pasty.
- Heat the 1 tbsp oil in a pan, over a medium flame. Add paneer and shallow fry them until the sides turn light brown. Transfer fried paneer to a plate and keep aside.
- Heat the remaining oil and butter together in the same pan, over a medium flame. Add cumin seeds and asafetida. After cumin seeds crack, add the onion and stir-fry until it turns translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste and stir fry for 30 sec.
- Add coriander, salt, turmeric, red chili powder and sugar, stir and add the spinach.
- After spinach comes to boil lower the flame to low, and add shallow fried paneer cubes and cook for about 5-6 mins do not cover the pan. This helps to keep the green color of spinach.
- Mix the flour into 1/2 cup of water and add to the pan, also add the cream. Mix it well and let it cook for 5 mins. Turn off the flame.
